YET ANOTHER

Besides being a famous singer, owns Blue Light Bar and Restaurant on Union Street in SF.  Opened in 1984, run by his brother who combines delicious down-home meals with a Texas twang, a pumping bar, and great rock 'n roll.

And we do not acknowledge eachother.

Family...

Again...my mother's side...more entertainers..oiy.  Is this all making sense now?

Anyone want to see my x husband, Brian's father...?...

SOMEONE

I've been searching a long time
For someone exactly like you
I've been travelling all around the world
Waiting for you to come through.
Someone like you makes it
All worth while
Someone like you keeps
Me satisfied. Someone exactly
Like you.

I've been travellin' a hard road
Lookin' for someone exactly like you
I've been carryin' my heavy load
Waiting for the light to come
Shining through.
Someone like you makes it
All worth while
Someone like you keeps
Me satisfied. Someone exactly
Like you.

I've been doin' some soul searching
To find out where you're at
I've been up and down the highway
In all kinds of foreign lands
Someone like you makes it
All worth while
Someone like you keeps
Me satisfied. Someone exactly
Like you.

I've been all around the world
Marching to the beat of a different drum.
But just lately I have realised
The best is yet to come.
Someone like you makes it
All worth while
Someone like you keeps
Me satisfied. Someone exactly
Like you.

Gotta love Van Morrison.

OTHERS IN MY TRIBE

Another personal battle with an autoimmune disease and her steps to get better.  For me, a facinating read:

HEALTH IS TRUE WEALTH

Update to my Hashimotos...

I am doing much better.  In researching this blood disease, I have come across some wonderful suggested treatments.

I gave up all dairy and grains.  The only type of alcohol can be beer or red wine.  So I mostly eat protein, veggies and fruit - mostly grapefruit and lots of water.  It is day 7 and I have not felt this good in 4 years.

I am also on vitamin supplements and walking everyday.  Cross your fingers and toes for me.

MORE FAMILY

Since you all asked about other family...

Now in my son's world, this is one of three relatives that really matter.

My cousin Ashley.

She is my Irish great Aunt Agnes' great grand-daughter. This is my mother's mothers side of the family, the Irish group that came over from Ireland into Canada.

Now, I can't say that we are close cousins.  They live in LA, and any weddings ...I missed because I was always traveling for work when they transpired.  I do get included in the form letter Christmas greeting that updates me on the family.

So one side of my family are artists, entertainers ...the other are lawyers and Government officials...and yet another side - crazy Italian.  See...is my odd personality starting to make sense?...

Just thank God you are not my serious boyfriend...you'd have to deal with all of it.

and my mother.

RELATIVES...

As we get ready to see two positions change on the Supreme Court, I was thinking of a distant relative.  Charles Evans Hughes was a cousin to my father.  Who is he you ask?

Charles E. Hughes (1862-1948)

Mary Catherine (<---like the name?,,,) Conley married David Charles Hughes, a young Methodist preacher from Wales who landed in New York Harbor in 1855. Their son, Charles Evens Hughes was born in Glen Falls New York, April 11, 1862.

He grew up to become Associate and Chief Justice of the Suprime Court.
He was educated by his parents but matriculated at Madison College (now Colgate) when he was fourteen. He graduated in 1881 from Brown University and received a law degree from Columbia University in 1884.

He scored an amazing 99 1/2 on his bar exam at the age of 22. He practiced law in New York for 20 years, with only a three-year break to teach law at Cornell Law School. He earned national recognition for his investigation into illegal rate-making and fraud in the insurance industry. After losing the election, he returned to his law practice in New York.

With an endorsement from Theodore Roosevelt, Charles Evans Hughes ran successfully for New York governor, defeating Democrat William Randolph Hearst in 1906. He was re-elected two years later. He ran but lost the 1916 presidential election to Woodrow Wilson. After losing the election, he returned to his law practice in New York.

After that brief return in private practice, He was called to politics again, this time as secretary of state for Warren G. Harding. He served as Secretary of State from 1921 to 1925. He continued in this role during the presidency of Calvin Coolidge. He subsequently resumed his law practice while serving in the Hague as a United States delegate to the Permanent Court of Arbitrationfrom 1926 to 1930.

On April 25, 1910, President William H. Taft nominated Charles Evans Hughes to the Supreme Court of the United States, and the Senate confirmed the appointment on May 2, 1910. In 1910, He accepted nomination to the High Court from President Taft. He was commissioned on May 2, 1910 and he was sworn in on October 10, 1910. Six years later, on June 10, 1916, He resigned to run against Woodrow Wilson for the presidency as the nominee of the Republican and Progressive Parties. He lost by a mere 23 electoral votes.

On February 3, 1930, President Herbert Hoover nominated Charles Evans Hughes for Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court. The U.S. Senate confirmed the appointment on February 13, 1930. Charles Evans Hughes' nomination to be chief justice met with opposition from Democrats who viewed him as too closely aligned with corporate America. Their opposition was insufficient to deny Charles Evans Hughes the position. He was commissioned on February 13, 1930. After serving eleven years as Chief Justice, he retired from his post on June 30, 1941.

He presided over the court during the Great Depression and the New Deal era. Known as a master of consensus, he guided the court in its transformation from opposing much of the New Deal legislation to acceptance of President Franklin D. Roosevelt's programs for a new national economy.

Charles Evans Hughes authored twice as many constitutional opinions as any other member of his Court. His opinions were concise and admirable. (Thanks to 'FindLaw.com').

And that is a small piece of my family history....the republican side.

$#%!!&**+#@&!!!

I can hear my Dad as I am rolling around on my living room swearing -  holding my foot..."Catherine Mary Hughes, if I told you once I told you a thousand times, PUT ON SOME DAMN SHOES!!"

SONUACHAR CHUGAT!

Some of you asked me to post the update to Rich.

Well, as things go, a year after we broke up he married a friend of a mutual friend.  I thought she was a bitch and she hated me.  On the other side, Rich thought Terry wasn't good enough and went out of his way to get in Terry's face.  I remember being out to dinner with Terry and Rich going at it with him...I thought they were going to lay punches and get us kicked out of the restaurant.  They ended with the usual "asshole" exchange.

When Rich and I were together I had three close, wonderful college friends.  They were Elisabeth, Kathryn, and Alex.  Alex was a professional model and the dearest thing.  I always told Rich I wanted to name my daughter Alexandra, after Alex.  He said the adult version was better...lol.

Rich ultimately married and had a baby girl.  I always related to the scene in "When Harry Met Sally" where Meg Ryan calls Billy Crystal over because Joe is engaged.  Her line was "I wasn't his Mrs. Right, I was his Miss Maybe".  On the day he got married I cried my eyes out.  My stepfather took me to a bar.  He offered me whiskey because it cures 'everything'...all it did was make me have one hell of a hangover to go with my golf ball puffy eyes.

Flash forward to ATG days when KB and I were walking and brousing the Thursday night market.  I turn, there's Rich at the kid area.  He sees me and walks over.  I thought I was going to pass out. He points to this beautiful little girl and says, "That's my daughter Alex Kathryn", and grins.  "I heard you had a boy" he continues.  "Yes, his name is Brian Alexander...” my voice trails as I realize the names.  KB helps me regroup and I walk away.  He named his daughter after us...odd.

Fast-forward again to two years ago when my brother calls me and tells me Rich is going to call me, "He's divorced".  My brotherwas more excited than I was, but this was his friend and he remembers when we would all hang out.  My brother always liked Rich the best.  Well, hell my whole family did.  My own mother cried when I left him.  I pause on the phone Whhhhhhaaaaat .... divorced ... Rich?  Sure enough, Rich calls a week later.  I guess even 45 year old men still think they have to play it cool.  Whatever.

When he finally does call, we talk for two hours.  He is still an executive with UPS, although he wishes he had done something else.  He was selling his home and moving to Walnut Creek...my favorite town.  He adores his daughter, but I notice how the phone call is all about him.  He wanted to tell me of his BMW, his new home in Walnut Creek, the country club life and all that.  Then I remember.... everything was always about him.  When we went anywhere it was his choice; he insisted that I wear designer clothes, drive a label sports car, designer shoes, and purses; to my choice of the 'right' friends; to where we were 'seen together'.  It struck me that he was still the same.

Now, I do understand that he was trying to impress me, but I am the bargain girl.  Labels do not mean anything to me.  I never pay full price for my purchases.  He did not understand this, and never understood that I did not care what other people think.  We did laugh about many things...mostly our ex.’s...and how much we each hated the other's.

It was a nice call and it gave me closure.  He invited me to come see him in Walnut Creek, but I never bothered.  I would like to leave things as they are.  I don't want his kind of life...imagine what our ex's would be like to deal with...?...oiy.

And besides, he wasn't my soul mate.

KILLING MY FAIRY GODMOTHER

A friend asked me my guy history and why I avoid relationships.  Since I answered her, I will answer here.

1.  Mark.  Fourth grade.  Walked me home from school everyday carrying my books.  He moved away in the summer of 4th to 5th grade and broke my heart.

2.  Stacy.  My cousin.  Our parents thought it was cute.  He grew up to be a Yankee pitcher and I couldn't stand him.

3.  Dave.  Hockey player.  Dated 4 months.  He broke up with me to sleep with an older girl.  They made out on all the benches at school.

I was still a virgin.

4.  Steve.  Hockey player, welder and 21.  I was 17.  My parents were mortified.  Oh yes, he had a motorcycle and long hair.  We dated a year and a half.  When my father died he never came to the funeral, instead got drunk with his friends.  I never spoke to him again.

5.  Stacy.  Roofer and definitely not my cousin.  Dated 9 months.  I was in a desperate state of depression over my father's death, left my home and moved in the extra bedroom at his mother's home.  His mother was a raging drunk who became meaner and more abusive with each sip.  My brother brought me back home.  I broke up with him in our family room.  He became abusive and violent when I would not get back together with him.

6.  Bob.  Basketball jock and collection manager.  Dated 1 year.  Friends from Rosenburgs introduced us and none of my girlfriends liked him.  He was 6'7" and I liked that I could wear tall shoes.  I became anorexic while dating him and got down to 117. He thought I still wasn't thin enough.  One good breeze and I would have landed in Alaska.  I found him in bed with his secretary.  She was heavier than me.  He called me on their wedding day.  I told my brother to tell him I died.

7.  Rich.  UPS manager, college student and pre-olympic runner.  Dated and lived with 7 years.  Went to college with my brother and my brother kept trying to get me to meet him.  I thought all my brother's friends were nerds (because they were nice guys - foolish girl).  It's a cute story how we met and he was my best friend.  We experienced all our "firsts" together and traveled all over.  He suprised me with a trip to the Olympics. We had a beautiful home, nice car and everything a young couple could want, except children. One Thanksgiving weekend, when I was 29, I walked out the door with only one bag - leaving everything behind.  It took him 3 weeks to call me.  Really, in the end I think it took that long for him to notice I was gone.  He still didn't want marriage or children, so we were done.  I was devasted.  I lost everything, but most importantly, I lost my best friend.

8.  Brad.  Rich country club party boy.  3 months.  I was still hurting over Rich and found him annoying and irresponsible.  I decided to go back to school and study real estate and was conveniently gone whenever he called.

9.  Steve.  State Treasury Officer.  9 weeks.  He always found fault with everything, not to mention his strange conspiracy theories, so I broke up with him over the phone.  He destroyed the inside of his Condo.  I decided to leave working in SF and come back north.  I missed Rich.

10.  Terry.  Loan officer.  Dated:  9 months.  Married: 7 years.  He gave me Brian, but there has never been that soul connection.  He made me laugh and was a great cook.  I married him because I wanted children, my heart was still hurting over Rich.  Terry is the most selfish man I have ever met, although since falling in love with his latest girlfriend, he is improving.  If it wasn't for Brian, I think I would have killed him 3 years ago...lol.

11.  Mark.  Wealthy business owner and pilot.  Married.  Off and on 3 years.  This did not work out well.  Classic tale of girl falling in love with a man who was never going to leave his wife.  It should be noted that I did not know he was married, but found out by looking in his briefcase at his checkbook.  I wrote him one of those angry bitter emails as a goodbye.  He had nothing to say except, "You're right".

12.  Patrick.  9 months.  See guys 6, 4 and 3...oh yes ...and he was a selfish prick and a terrible father.  Everyone I knew couldn't stand him, in the end, neither could I.

13.  Tony.  SVP of Marketing.  Complicated.  He is married now.

Since then I have dated Keith, Bill, Oscar, Aemon, Dan, Vincent, Joy, Dale, Mark II, Gordon, John, Ryan and Tom.

And the reason I am not with anyone seriously... ? ... one would just have to read above.  I have not picked well in the past, except for Rich maybe, but there were problems there too.  I pick selfish self-centered men and I am just beginning to figure out why.

My dad was wonderfully giving, so my issues do not come from being his daughter.  Since I have Brian and he is such a love, I am not about to take any chances on a selfish man.  When I am sure I am not going to pick from ones like the above group, then I will think about it again.

For now, I am focusing on me,where I am going with my life, and studying everything I can on Hashimotos.

...But do let me know if there is such a thing as a single, available giving kind nice man...I would like to clone him.

Until next time-

C

PS.  Bob lol or is it John...?...lol...(I aways messed up his name and never understood why) wants an honorable mention, except I don't remember how long we dated.  He was before Patrick.  Professional golfer? ....and...?

he says to say "he was a great kisser but a worthless man at the time..."

http://journals.aol.com/rapieress/Aweekinthelife/

I finally came to the conclusion that I can't have burner covers.  Did you know they are flamable...?..and smell awful when cooked...

...this is the 3rd time I have found that out...

PALSM 23

The Lord is my shepherd,
I shall not want;
He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters;
He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness
for His name's sake.

Even though I walk through the valley
of the shadow of death,
I fear no evil;
for You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life;
and I shall dwell in the house of the
Lord forever.

To the hills I went looking for you
because it was there I saw you first
you were playing with the wind
perhaps waiting for me.

There I found you, huambrita

To the hill I return, huambrita

INNOCENCE OF A CHILD

Brian made weight.  One of his little friends did the trick.  His mother told me that last night before falling asleep, his friend said, "....and God, please help my friend Brian make weight..."

LOL.  Aren't children amazing?

However, they still lost 36 - 7.

It's going to be a long season.

TABLE FOR TWO

Tonight I enjoyed a "date" with my son.  We decided to walk to the shopping center about a mile from our home to a japanese restaurant called Shogun.  Brian loves sushi and any type of seafood.  We were going out to dinner...

So we dawned walking shoes and chatted our way there.  Brian always tells me interesting things when we walk together.  He is determined, between his having to be fit for football and living with me, that he is going to cure my Hashimotos and personally see to it that I feel better.

He tells me that I had better "keep up" with his walking pace...(um I was in labor with you boy you have no idea just how well I can keep up!)  He cracks me up though.  He tells me of his plans for his future, what he sees for us, his favorite friends and pokemon.  I could listen to him talk forever.

We have tempura and some sushi at the restaurant.  It is a sweet dinner out.  The service is top notch and I take this time to begin training Brian on how to take a girl out to dinner, although he wrinkles his nose and looks at me like I am nuts...girls???

When dinner is over he cons be into going into Copperfields Books cause he knows I am a sucker for books.  He heads straight for the Star Wars section and I find my way to the health section.  I intend to buy nothing ...we leave with a Star Wars book, a star Wars magazine and a blood type book.  SO much for a cheap night out.

We walk back through the center and passing Ross I realize he has outgrown his sweat pants and could use some for his weigh in at tomorrows game.  I tell Brian it will be a quick trip in and out.  That so called quick trip involved a new pair of tennis shoes for him...the sweat pants for him and a youth football FOR HIM.  So much for a quick in and out and just sweat pants...

Will I ever shop for me again???

We walk back as darkness begins to fall and Brian is running ahead throwing the football back for me to catch one-handed and carrying all the bags.  Geesh...not much different than an adult date...

Cross your fingers he makes weight and they win tomorrow.

Until next time-

MR BIG

Hmmm...my "Mr Big" is coming to California in two weeks....oiy...I haven't seen him since ...I say 2002...he says 2003...

Dinner in Sf or Tiburon...am I up to this?  I need good drugs...and talking out of it.  How do you meet with someone after your stars have crossed in an amazing way...and have gone on to different universes?  My Mr Big is married now with more children...

Time changes people...perceptions...needs.

Yet he was such a good friend to me...a shoulder to cry on...someone who always makes me laugh and look at the world for all its possibilities.  So many men here do not understand or "get" me.  But he always has...it's as if he reads my soul.
